If you're living in Thailand — or anywhere in Southeast Asia — and you want to learn to trade IQ Option but every guide you find is either hopelessly outdated, or written by someone who's never actually traded: this is for you.

My name is Ton. I'm based in Bangkok. I started trading IQ Option in 2018 and lost ฿40,000 (~$1,100) in my first four months. I went profitable in 2020 after completely changing how I approached risk. Everything that made the difference is in this guide.

I'm not going to promise you'll get rich. But if you follow this in order, you won't make the same mistakes I made.

⚠️ Risk notice: Trading Digital Options, Binary Options, CFDs and Forex carries significant risk. You may lose all invested capital. This content is educational only — not investment advice.

What is IQ Option and what can you trade?

IQ Option is an online trading platform that lets you speculate on price movements across hundreds of assets. It's operated by Sky Ladder LLC in Antigua, licensed by the FSRC (RA000008).

📌 Licence: IQ Option operates under FSRC licence RA000008 (Antigua). 10+ years in operation, 4.3/5 on Trustpilot from 2,500+ reviews.

What you can trade on IQ Option (2026)

The platform has 480+ instruments across five categories:

Asset TypeCountExamples
Forex (CFD)40+ pairsEUR/USD, GBP/JPY, USD/THB
Stocks (CFD)300+Apple, Tesla, Amazon
Crypto (CFD)60+Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana
Commodities (CFD)10+Gold, Oil, Silver
Indices (CFD)25+S&P 500, NASDAQ, DAX

On top of CFDs, IQ Option has two proprietary short-term products: Digital Options and Binary Options.

Binary Options vs Digital Options — what's the difference?

Many older guides say "IQ Option removed Binary Options" — that's simply not accurate for traders in Thailand. Both products are available here:

Bottom line: Both Binary Options and Digital Options are available to traders in Thailand. Anyone telling you otherwise is working from an outdated guide.

Step 1 — Open an account and start with the demo

How to sign up

The sign-up takes about three minutes:

  1. Go to iqoption.com — this is the correct URL for traders in Thailand
  2. Enter your email and create a password (minimum 8 characters)
  3. Confirm your email via the link they send
  4. You'll land in the platform with a $10,000 demo account — no deposit needed

Do not deposit real money yet. The demo account is the most useful tool you have as a beginner and most people skip it out of impatience. That mistake cost me ฿40,000 (~$1,100).

What the demo actually teaches you

"The demo isn't real — it's not the same as trading with real money." People say this, and it's partially true. Your emotions are different with real money.

But the demo is invaluable for things that have nothing to do with emotion:

✅ When to leave demo: After 20–30 trades, and only when you've been net profitable for two weeks in a row — not when you "feel ready." If you're still losing in demo, adding real money won't fix that.

How to switch between demo and live accounts

In the app (iOS/Android) or web platform: tap or click the account name/balance in the top-left. Select "Practice Account" (demo) or "Real Account." Your demo balance can be reset anytime: Settings → Replenish Practice Balance.

Step 2 — Understanding the platform

Most guides online use screenshots from 2016–2019. The platform has been redesigned substantially since. Here's how it actually looks and works in 2026.

Key parts of the IQ Option platform

1. Chart Area

The center of the screen. Shows price movement over time. Default is candlestick view — keep it that way. Candlesticks show four data points per candle (open, high, low, close), which is far more useful than a line chart.

2. Timeframe Selector

Top of the chart. Ranges from 5 seconds to 1 month. For beginners: use M5 (5 minutes) or M15 (15 minutes). Very short timeframes (5s, 1m) have too much noise to read signals reliably.

3. Asset Selector

Click the "+" or the current asset name at the top to search and switch instruments. Note the % payout shown for Digital Options — it varies by asset and changes during the day (typically 75–95%).

4. Trade Panel (right side)

5. Indicators Panel

The "f(x)" or "Indicators" button on the chart. IQ Option has 100+ indicators. For beginners, use no more than 3: Moving Average (MA), RSI, and Bollinger Bands. More indicators create more confusion, not more clarity.

6. Portfolio Tab

Bottom of screen (or left menu on mobile). Shows open trades, history, and total balance. Check this before opening a new trade to know your current exposure.

⚠️ CFD leverage: CFDs on IQ Option use leverage, which amplifies both gains and losses. At 10× leverage, a 10% move against you means you lose your entire margin on that position. Beginners should start with low leverage (2×–5×) or stick to Digital Options where the max loss is fixed.

Step 3 — Reading charts (candlesticks basics)

This is what separates traders with a plan from traders who are essentially guessing. Most guides cover "click up or click down" but not how to actually decide.

For deep-dive chart analysis, see: Candlestick Chart Analysis for IQ Option

What a candlestick shows

Each candle represents one time period (e.g. 5 minutes) and contains four data points:

Green (bullish) candle: Close was higher than open — buyers dominated.
Red (bearish) candle: Close was lower than open — sellers dominated.

3 patterns every beginner needs to know

There are 100+ candlestick patterns. You don't need them. Start with these three — they appear frequently and are easy to spot:

1. Doji

Open and close are almost the same price — very thin body, long wicks on both sides. Signals: indecision. The market doesn't know which way to go. A Doji after a sustained trend often signals a reversal coming.

2. Engulfing

One candle's body completely "engulfs" the previous candle's body.
Bullish Engulfing: Large green candle engulfs a red candle — signals upward move.
Bearish Engulfing: Large red candle engulfs a green candle — signals downward move.
Most reliable when it appears at a key support or resistance level.

3. Pin Bar

A candle with a very long wick on one side and a small body.
Bullish Pin Bar: Long wick below (price tried to fall, rejected hard) — signals up.
Bearish Pin Bar: Long wick above (price tried to rise, rejected hard) — signals down.
Read it as: "The market tried to go that direction but got pushed back strongly."

Support and Resistance

Support: A price level where price tends to stop falling and bounce up. Draw a horizontal line through repeated price lows.

Resistance: A price level where price tends to stop rising and fall back. Draw a horizontal line through repeated price highs.

How to use them: if price approaches support and you see a Bullish Pin Bar or Engulfing, there's a higher-probability long trade. If price approaches resistance and you see a bearish signal — higher-probability short.

💡 Personal rule: I don't open a trade on a single signal alone. I want at least 2–3 factors aligning: a candle pattern + a key level (support/resistance) + the higher timeframe pointing the same direction.

Which timeframe to start with

My recommendation: M15 (15-minute candles). Slow enough to think before you click, fast enough to see results in the same session. Once you can read M15 consistently, experiment with M5 or H1.

Avoid: 5-second and 1-minute charts as a beginner. They look exciting but the noise-to-signal ratio is terrible. Most people trading those timeframes are effectively gambling without knowing it.

Step 4 — Risk management (the part most beginners skip)

Bluntly: this section matters more than everything above it combined. Most people read about "how to trade" and skip "how not to blow up." That's why most people lose money — not because they can't read a chart.

The 2% Rule — the only rule you need to remember forever

Never risk more than 2% of your total account on a single trade.

Account Size2% Per TradeAfter 10 Losses in a Row
฿3,500 (~$100)฿70~฿2,800 remaining — still trading
฿17,500 (~$500)฿350~฿14,000 remaining — still trading
฿35,000 (~$1,000)฿700~฿28,000 remaining — still trading

Compare that to someone risking 20% per trade — 10 losses in a row and they're done. The 2% rule won't make you rich fast. It keeps you alive long enough to learn.

⚠️ How I lost ฿8,000 (~$220) in a single afternoon

After losing 5 trades in a row, I told myself I needed to "win it back" and tripled my position size. Lost again. Doubled it again. By the end of that session I'd lost ฿8,000. Psychologists call this Martingale trap or revenge trading. It happens to everyone. Know about it before it happens to you.

Daily stop rules

Rules I still use today:

These sound simple. They are hard in practice, because your emotions will tell you to "just one more" or "get it back." The ability to follow these rules is what separates traders who last from traders who keep reloading their account.

Stop Loss for CFD trades

Digital Options and Binary Options have built-in fixed risk — you know your max loss before you click. CFDs don't. Your loss on a CFD is however much the market moves against you.

Rule: Set your stop loss before you open the trade — never after. Place it below the nearest support level (for longs) or above resistance (for shorts). Your stop distance should be at most half your profit target (minimum 1:2 risk/reward ratio).

Trading psychology

I notice I trade worse when I'm angry, stressed about something else, or in a hurry. If my day is bad for non-trading reasons, I don't trade. This sounds easy. It's not.

Warning signs you're trading emotionally:

If you notice these in yourself — stop immediately. Come back tomorrow.

Step 5 — Depositing and starting with real money

You're here because you've practiced in demo and you're ready. Good.

VIP status is automatic when you reach either:

VIP benefits include: higher payouts on Digital Options, a dedicated personal manager, and priority support.

How much to deposit first

My recommendation: ฿700–฿1,750 (~$20–$50) for your first real deposit.

  1. Tests the deposit and withdrawal system before you commit larger amounts
  2. If you lose it all (common for beginners), the damage is manageable
  3. Lets you practice discipline with real stakes before scaling up

Trade at ฿35 (~$1) per trade even if you deposit ฿1,750. Don't rush to increase position size. Scale only when you've been net profitable for a full month.

AI Trading with IQ Option (MCP)

This is something no existing English guide covers — because it's genuinely new.

IQ Option is one of the first trading platforms to support MCP (Model Context Protocol) — a standard that lets AI assistants like Claude Desktop or ChatGPT connect directly to external tools and services.

What you can do through MCP on IQ Option:

⚠️ For beginners: I don't recommend enabling trade execution through AI before you fully understand the fundamentals. AI can execute trades on your behalf — but if the strategy is bad, you still lose. And you won't learn anything.

I personally use Claude Desktop to track my open positions and analyze my trade journal — not to trade automatically.
